Office of the Students Activities Leadership Retreat 2006 Weekend of September 22 to 24
Hello fellow students,
As a president of this wonderful club, the Evening Weekend Students Club, it was a great pleasure and experience to attend this year's Office of the Students Activities Leadership Retreat '06 on behalf of all the students that make the evening and weekend portion of this great college. During this retreat, I learned a lot. The retreat was both educational and socially entertaining. I had the opportunity to meet a lot of new friends, some of whom were leaders of different clubs on the campus, as well.
Among the events held on this retreat were:
• Time management, that is how to manage time, most especially as an evening and weekend student, it is so difficult to juggle around school and work. So this educational session helps me a lot in managing my time and schedules.
• Balancing Academics & Leadership session, this part taught me a great deal of understanding on how to manipulate my leadership skills and my education together.
• Interpersonal Communication(Thinking Outside of the Box), this session was organized by the Dean of Students Affairs, Marva Craig. It taught me skills of reasoning and analyzing things from other people perspectives. That is, how to reason together with others, and how to view things from others points of view.
• Dining Etiquette(Elbows off the Table), conducted and perfectly delivered by Joyce conoly-Simmons. This was educational in a unique way because dining with executives and government or international officials are so important that one must learn how to dine professionally and appropriately. This I learned as well.
• Laying the Foundation for Principled Leadership(The VIP Treatment), well conducted by Mr. Harry Mars,Director of Students Affairs. At this session something special were learned as per organization's interest ,values, and principles. Also, i learned about how to confront and deal with issues of either students or the general public.
• Breakfast, lunch, and dinner times were appropriate and enjoying.
• Lastly, the games nite and pool parties were wonderful and fun with different kind of friends. Above all, the basketball game was competitive with some officers from the Students Government Association.
My advice to all students is that please try to attend sessions like these in the near future so as to experience what I just learned. Thanks and stay around our wonderful club for more information that are educational and fun-sharing.
Yours, Morris B. Sheriff, President EWSC
